What are Colon and Rectal Surgeons and why should you seek their expertise?
As Colon and Rectal Surgeons we are graduates of Medical School who completed at least five years of training in General Surgery and an additional year of training in the field of Colon and Rectal Surgery. We limit our practice to diseases of the large and small intestines, rectum, and anus. In addition to performing surgery in these specialized areas, we are skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of Colon and Rectal Diseases.

It is important to realize that only about one in four patients referred to our practice will undergo a surgical procedure. Our specialty differs from General Surgery in that we deal with a limited area of the body while General Surgeons perform operations on the neck, chest, abdomen, and extremities.

We perform major Colon and Rectal operations as well as anorectal procedures. Multiple studies confirm the superiority of care by Colon and Rectal Surgeons when compared to non-specialists in terms of reduced mortality, reduced complications, better survival following cancer surgery, and the need for fewer permanent stomas (artificial openings in the abdominal wall such as a colostomy).
