Dr. Silverman is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He serves on numerous committees for The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Dr. Silverman is also an invited reviewer of manuscripts for the peer-reviewed journal Diseases of the Colon and Rectum.
Dr. Ralph Silverman graduated from the 6-year, accelerated program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Medical School in Kansas City, Missouri where he earned a B.A. in Biology and his M.D. degrees.
Dr. Silverman completed his Internship and Residency in General Surgery at Saint Louis University Health Sciences Center in St. Louis, Missouri. He went on to receive his Fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.
Dr. Silverman is trained to perform laparoscopic surgery for the treatment of colon and rectal cancer as well as benign diseases such as diverticulitis, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease and rectal prolapse. In addition, he performs common anorectal procedures such as hemorrhoidal repair, treatment of anal fissures and correction of incontinence using modern non-surgical or minimally-invasive techniques which result in less pain and quicker recovery.
