| Colon Preparation For Surgery |
On the morning THE DAY BEFORE your surgery:
- Prepare your Colyte solution by adding warm tap water as directed on the bottle. Shake vigorously several times. REFRIGERATE (optional). DO NOT add any flavoring agents other than what is with the prescription.
- You may have only clear liquids* the day before your surgery.
- Take all medicines**
- At 7:30 a.m. take the Reglan and Compazine with a few sips of water.
- At 8:00 a.m. begin drinking the Colyte mixture one glass (8 oz.) every 10 minutes. DO NOT SIP the mixture, drink the entire glass RAPIDLY. Finish the bottle no later than __________
- CONTINUE DRINKING UNTIL YOU FINISH THE ENTIRE BOTTLE.
- Approximately 1 hour after you begin drinking, you will start to move your bowels. This will continue up to 1 hour after you finish drinking all of the solution.
- Take (1) Flagyl tablet and (2) Neomycin tablets at ______ ______ ______
- At 8:00 p.m. place Dulcolax suppository in rectum.
- DO NOT EAT or DRINK anything after midnight.
On THE DAY OF surgery:
- You may take your usual medications with a small amount of water.
- No breakfast.
- Take Fleet enema.
- Please arrive at the hospital, 2 hours prior to your surgery or as instructed by your Doctor.
* CLEAR LIQUIDS: clear soups or broth, bullion, jello, soda pop, black coffee or tea, clear fruit juice. NO MILK or DAIRY products.
** For SEVEN DAYS prior to surgery, NO ASPIRIN PRODUCTS. You may take Tylenol.
** For TWO DAYS prior to exam, DO NOT eat foods with seeds.
** If you are a diabetic or on blood thinning medication such as Aspirin, Coumadin, Motrin, Nuprin, Advil or other antiinflammatory drugs, inform the doctor NOW.
